A week in Oia does not need seven packed itineraries. Discover how a private villa can give couples, families and friends room to explore Santorini, follow different rhythms and enjoy being together.
A week is more than seven days
A short visit can turn a destination into a checklist. A week offers something different: the chance to return to a favourite corner, change your mind and recognise the rhythm of a place. In Oia, that extra time also changes the way people travel together. You no longer need every morning to begin with a negotiation or every afternoon to deliver another memorable photograph. There is room for ordinary pleasures to become part of the journey.
At Katharos Villas, six independent villas with private pools offer a base for this approach. Togetherness is not measured by how many activities everyone shares. It can mean knowing there is a familiar place to return to, space for a quiet hour and enough time for a conversation that would normally be interrupted. The following ideas are a flexible framework, rather than a timetable.
Begin with a morning that belongs to you
Let the first full day settle gently. Unpack, learn the layout of the villa and decide what would make the week feel good for each person. Someone may want a walk through Oia; someone else may need sleep after travelling. A simple breakfast and a little time on the terrace can help everyone arrive mentally as well as physically. Agree on one shared moment for the day instead of coordinating every hour.
For the next mornings, keep one small ritual: coffee together, a swim or ten minutes talking before phones appear. It need not happen at the same time every day. If children are travelling, build the morning around their needs and supervise them closely around the pool. An unhurried holiday still benefits from a few clear, thoughtful agreements.
Give exploration a place, not the whole programme
Use two or three days for exploring, with one main idea on each. One might centre on Oia and its lanes; another on a different village or landscape elsewhere on the island. Ammoudi and Katharos can inspire a separate outing, rather than becoming additional stops squeezed into an already full afternoon. Ask locally about current access, transport and conditions before choosing your route.
Remember that distances on a map do not explain slopes, steps, heat or the energy of the people travelling with you. Plan comfortable footwear, drinking water and a return that suits the group. Check opening times and any reservations needed. Leave enough flexibility for weather or a tired afternoon to change the plan. A week gives you permission to move an experience to another day.
Allow different people to have different holidays
The early riser and the late sleeper can enjoy the same trip. So can the keen explorer and the person happiest beside the pool. Before booking, discuss sleeping arrangements, privacy, mobility needs and how much time everyone actually wants to share. If your group needs several villas, ask which combinations are available and how the layout would work for you; proximity should be confirmed, not assumed.
A useful arrangement is to choose a meeting point later in the day. Some people can go out, others can remain in the villa, and everyone can regroup without treating different preferences as a problem. With children, agree clearly who is supervising and when. Shared space works best when responsibility is clear and nobody has to guess what the others expect.
Protect one day from the itinerary
Somewhere in the middle of the week, leave a day deliberately light. Read the book you brought, prepare something simple in the kitchen or enjoy the terrace between swims. Katharos Villas has equipped kitchens, so a meal can be shaped around your own routine; ask the team about the practical details you need before arrival. You do not have to fill every pause with a reservation.
This quieter day also makes room for small choices: an extra hour of sleep, a conversation, a favourite meal repeated. Later, when the week is almost over, return to one place you enjoyed instead of trying to collect a final list of sights. Repetition is part of feeling at home somewhere. The second visit can be the one you remember most.
Book the week around your people
Before confirming, send the team your dates, the number and ages of guests, and any specific needs. Ask about the proposed accommodation, arrival and departure arrangements, pool use, stairs and access. Review the total price, payment schedule and cancellation conditions in writing. If you are considering the whole residence, request availability and written confirmation of the exact arrangement before making plans around exclusivity.
A good week in Oia balances SPACE, TIME, PRIVACY and TOGETHERNESS in a way that suits your people. The goal is not to follow these suggestions perfectly, but to create a stay with room for everyone. To begin planning your own version, check availability through the official booking page or contact the Katharos Villas team directly.

What our guests say
Wonderful
Read the great reviews and had high hopes. Our stay at Katharos Villas was nothing short of amazing and exceeded all hopes and expectations.
We had some dealings with our wonderful hosts, notably Francesco, before arrival and were relieved to have timely and extremely helpful responses.
After our arrival and throughout our stay, we were treated like royalty - nothing was too much trouble but everything was dealt with in a calm, sophisticated, professional way. This is a chic, classy place to stay and the hosts are a huge part of that. We were a party of 5.
Great Villas Perfect Service
Exceptional stay at Katharos Villas!
Wonderful stay at Katharos Villas! They go way above and beyond the normal standard of service and hospitality. Alessandro and Francesco were the nicest, kindest, and most helpful people I've ever met. They treated me and my wife like family.
On our first day there my wife suffered some trauma to her eye and Alessandro dropped everything and rushed us to a doctor in town. The next morning, he drove us all the way to the hospital to look for an opthamologist which they didn't have there so he went with us to 2 other clinics until we finally found one. We are eternally grateful for them for their kindness and help in our time of need!
The villa is spacious and the private pool was awesome and fun to relax in, just a little chilly, but Alessandro told me they would be getting heaters for the pools in the future. Everything was clean, well taken care of and comfortable. It was an amazing vacation even with our medical emergency and we can't wait to return to Katharos Villas!
From Hollywood to Santorini
My associate and I came here for work just last week. We traveled from Los Angeles to Athens and then Santorini. The email communication of this team is excellent. Very good english and warm hospitality. They even helped arrange a car rental for us which made traveling very convenient. The rooms were very clean and the property was very cozy and quaint. Our fridge had food and they even offered to buy groceries for us. The reception staff was so kind and made us feel very at home. I really want to book this space again when we return later this year. A+ experience
